Gold Coast Tornado

So the cyclone has now turned into a full on tornado so the whole of the NSW and QLD all have warnings out... this is a photo from earlier today...

I'm not sure how good the video is but we wanted to attempt to show you how windy its been...

We're all safe, although the apartment above us had their balcony door (which is made of glass) ripped out and smashed onto a car just below us! The wind is said not to be dying out till Wednesday now, but we will keep you updated :)

Rain, rain and more rain...

So its still raining, third day running!! But we're all safe.. although walking to work in the rain is pretty difficult as its so windy that the umbrella immediately turns inside out but the downpour is so heavy...

Tom and I haven’t really been able to get up to much as we’ve been working a lot, especially Tom working hard for a promotion he’s been offered!
However, I thought I haven’t really been telling anyone what I’ve been doing work wise since I’ve been here and most of you know working here was a big reason that we came.

So, I’ve been working at the Marriott as a Guest Service Agent, whilst I am still occasionally waitressing like I was in Cheltenham it has given me a lot of opportunities to experience a variety of sectors that go into running such a large hotel.
So far I have worked in room service which let up for a number of strange experiences as I think it does in any hotel as many of you have heard of my room service stories from back in Cheltenham...one in particular since I’ve been here involves a rather large gentleman who ordered some food to his room, as I entered he proceeded to blame me for being unable to fit into the standard hotel robe! To say the least I was rather baffled as what to answer the gentleman...
I am now focusing on human resources, which is of great interest to me as it is a sector I would like to potentially work in in the future. I will also be working in front desk, events and sales and marketing, all of which I hope will offer a variety of experiences to me.

After all my hard work Tom treated me to my favourite... lots and lots of sweets.

Other than our work we have been spending a lot of time down by our pool, keeping up our tan’s up :)

-- however, over the last few days we’ve have had a cyclone approaching us so a lot of of heavy rain has been upon us.. but it somewhat reminds us of home so its no too bad!

I hope all is well and there isn't too much snow for all of you!!
Lots of Love, Tom and Bea

Food, food and more food!

Our first day off was spent in the town of surfers as the weather wasn't worth going to the beach, and our evening was spent going to the sushi train where we also had the luck of watching a teppanyaki show!

A glipse of our japanese dinner :) -- although tom isn't so keen on the raw fish!!

The next day we visited one of Tom's favourite pubs in Surfers Paradise, however it seems our eyes were bigger than our stomachs.. as we ordered really too much food, no matter how delicious it was.

Other than eating our weight in food we have visited the dentist as Tom's been worrying a little about his teeth and felt a check up would put him at ease, which of course it did.
The problem came from wearing braces when he was younger and we discovered is fairly common, therefore the problem was easily fixed even if at a cost! Luckily we're able to get it on insurance :)

January..

First of all, Happy Belated New Year, I know its coming up to a month since I last posted so I thought it to get back into the swing of things with my blog as things have started to slow down..

Its been all go at work really, as you can imagine, its the school holidays here, the middle of the summer so the hotel is packed to capacity therefore I am on as many hours as possible and its a similar story for Tom aswell, but as I said its started to slow down a little now and we did our first official touristy trip since we've been here!
Although, forgetting briefly it was the summer holidays was a slight downfall of ours as we arrived at the Gold Coasts Wet n' Wild World, one of the countries best water parks!
After getting over the large number of children the parks rides certainly didn't disappoint! :)

This one was my favourite, the tornado, which drops you whilst in a rubber ring into this cone where your spinning around!

There is then the aqua loop, which doesn't too scary, but I'm sad to say that I was to scared to go on this one so tom had to go alone... it involves climbing into a plastic cage at the top where your standing on a platform and this comes from under you and your dropped straight down with a jet pack on your pack!! Toms favourite ride tough...

These were the two amongst many other rides, including a lazy river and wave pool...

Tom and I have now managed to get our shifts in sync which is good, so our days off are both on the Mondays and Tuesdays and they have now been dedicated to fulfilling our touristy trips on the Gold Coast -- this coming Monday is Tom's decision to go to a sushi train, as he has now developed a taste for sushi!!
We also may go jetboating, like I did in New Zealand with mum and the others, lets see how it compare!! :)
For those of you who don't know what it is I'll explain when we've done it.

Anyways, I'm hoping to keep up the blog more regularly now that christmas is over.. hope everyone is doing well in the New Year and keeping up those new years resolutions!!
